Tears

It's has been 7 days after an earthquake off the coast Sumatra sent tidal waves, better known as Tsunamis across the Asian subcontinent. These Tsunamis or Harbour Wind, killed well over 150 000 people. Its devestating effect was felt all the way to eastern coast of Africa. 1 000 000 people are without homes. The death toll is expected to rise as outbreaks of cholera, typhoid and many other other diseases continue to take away the lives of those who survived.

The earthquake measuring a 9.0 on the ricther scale sent walls of water, many feet high to countries all across the region. Malaysia, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Thailand and India all have beared the devesating waves. Indonesia, the worst hit country, with almost 80 000 casualties, have stopped trying to count the dead and are only offereing rough estimates of the final number. The true figures, will forever remain unknown as remains of those pulled out to sea, i suspect will continue to wash on beaches in years to come.

A couple of hours ago, Channel News Asia(CNA) had a special on the aftermath of what has been called the biggest natural disaster in almost 40 years. They interviewd those at Malaysia, most of which were holiday goers at Penang. It was heart wrenching to see a father who had lost 5 out of his 7 children. In a split second 3 of them were swollowed by the sea. He watched helplessly as one of his children covered in blood called out for her mother. Another of one of his children was holding on to her sister when the first wave hit, but when the second wave hit, the older sister lost her grip and watched her younger sister being washed out to sea. I have no doubt that tears would fill your eyes as you hear the father cry when he gave his accont of what happened. No words can descirbe the feeling a father or a mother has when he/she has to bury a child. A child who has lost his parent is called an orphan, but there is no name for a parent who has lost his child because a parent should never loose a child. I was unable to hold back my tears, there is a malay saying 'berat mata memandang, lagi berat bahu memikul'. I cannat possibly phathom the emotion a parent would feel, watching his child die, or seeing his child body being lowered into a grave,i cannot, mayb until i have my own children.

God has just sent out a warning, a reminder, lets hope mankind will take it seriously.
